Heaton Valves Africa secures top-end contract for new Sasol plant

Commercial and technical valve solution specialists, Heaton Valves Africa (HVA), has successfully secured the order for all safety relief valves as well as a number of commodity valves for Sasol’s latest development, a Cobalt Catalyst plant, Meerkat II.

In order for Sasol to expand their production line in producing Cobalt Catalysts, the Meerkat II plant, which is currently being built in Sasolburg, has been designed to replicate Sasol’s original plant built in Europe in 2009.

The project, which is being managed by Royal Haskoning Dordste Engineering on behalf of Sasol Technology, required all specifications of the plant to match that of the original European DIN.

HVA secured the contract not only because the Meerkat I plant is being built with the Leser product range or that Meerkat II has to match it to exact specifications, but also owing to the fact that they already had an excellent working relationship with Sasol, having supplied Sasol a wide range of API valves and steam equipment in the past. A further advantage is that HVA is able to maintain the equipment supplied once they are online and running.

As leaders in their field, HVA is able to repair, re-calibrate and supply replacement Leser safety relief valves (and are solely responsible for servicing all clients within the sub-Saharan territory), all directly from their own substantial stock holding of Leser equipment.

Engineered Products Divisional Manager of HVA, Clinton Parsons, who has performed all of the technical and commercial management of the Meerkat II project commented that the caliber of qualified product managers and technicians working for HVA has allowed them to service end-user clients such as Sasol with valve sizing, valve calibration and valve repairs, all to the highest quality standards.
